2012-13 Dance Team Tryouts

Date: September 16, 2012 and September 17, 2012 (There are two audition dates, you can only participate in ONE tryout. On each day cuts will be made and there will be finalists from both days chosen, from the finalists the team will be chosen)

Location: Back Gym in the Palumbo Center

Time: September 16th - Registration Begins at 9:30AM, Tryouts will begin between 10-10:15AM

September 17th - Registration Begins at 6:00PM, Tryouts will begin at 6:30PM

Registration: There will be a $25 registration fee for all participants which can be made in the form of cash or check made out to Duquesne Athletics with Dance Team in the memo! This is non-refundable once registered.

Attire: Please come in fitted attire nothing baggy! We will be learning both a jazz and hip hop routine as well as a down the floor segment, so wear whatever shoes you would like for the pertaining styles, going barefoot is fine as well! If you wanted to put on sneakers and pants for hip hop that would be acceptable but for jazz I want form fitted attire so I am able to see your lines! Preferably shorts and tank top, a midriff top is acceptable as well.

Hair/Make-up: You are expected to come in performance make-up and hair! For all the games you will dance with your hair down so I would strongly suggest that it was worn that way for auditions.

Bring: Bring water and a snack to keep your energy up, there are water fountains available at the facility as well if necessary!

With new costumes, cutting edge choreography and top of the line sponsors this year I promise to take this team to the next level. Over the last four years this program has built a reputation of a team of talented and beautiful dancers and I am so excited to bring the fans just what they have come to expect from the Dukettes and MORE!!

To ensure a professional and relaxed learning atmosphere for all participants, the audition(s) taking place on September 16th and 17th will be closed to the public.

THE DUKETTES
The Duquesne University Dance team is the premier Dance Team of the Atlantic 10 Conference. With cutting edge choreography, these women bring an undeniable energy to everything they are involved in! The Dukettes perform at both the Men's and Women's Basketball Home Games, as well as participate in many events within the community and on campus. They also get the opportunity to perform at CONSOL Energy Center in front of thousands of fans.

The team's main styles consist of Jazz and Hip Hop, but are infused with character, pom, Latin, modern, and video choreography. This dance team has the perfect balance of technically trained dancers that know how to entertain the crowd and are pursuing college degrees! The Duquesne University Dance Team is a group of women who uphold a high standard of professionalism and top notch entertainment on and off the basketball court. They also serve as ambassadors of Duquesne University, spreading our culture of pure determination, passion, fun, knowledge and excitement throughout the community.

We are constantly building upon the already solid Dukettes foundation and can't wait to see who will become part of the 2012-2013 team... ARE YOU NEXT?

GENERAL DUKETTE INFORMATION

All applicants must attend Duquesne University

The dance team is a club, therefore both undergraduate and graduate students of Duquesne University are allowed to tryout & participate

Must have some previous performance/dance experience

Dancers are rotated on the game schedule: the Dance Team consists of 16 to 17 members but only 12 perform per game. ALL members will perform at some games. You must be able to attend the majority of Men's and Women's Home Basketball Games

You must be willing to participate in community activities

Practice is twice a week for 3-3.5 hours per practice including workouts. This can change depending upon the schedule. The coach will work with your schedules because school is the first priority, but you must be available for the majority of practice. Traditionally practice is on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.

You will be expected to uphold a code of conduct reflective of the high standards of Duquesne University as well as the Dance Team, coach, and your teammates. You will be expected to sign a contract and any violations can result in your removal from the team.

If you are chosen as a member of the Duquesne University Dance team you will pay a onetime fee of $70. This goes toward warm-ups, apparel, bags, and more - all of which you will keep at the conclusion of the season

You must be willing to have fun, meet new people, become a better dancer, listen to your coach, respect your teammates, and be an active part of an organization that the Fans have grown to love!
