Our Cheerleading program is comprised of full-time students of Duquesne University. These athletes are required to attend all practices on Sunday and Wednesday nights and events including, but not limited to: Camp, All Home Football games, Pep Rallies, Pre-game events, etc. Upon making the squad, you will be placed into stunt groups that will rotate to Men's and Women's home Basketball games, as the NCAA will only allow 12 cheerleaders on the performance surface at any given time. Each athlete is required to maintain academic eligibility (minimum 2.0 GPA) while participating in all events. These athletes are also required ongoing participation in Safety training to maintain our compliance with NCAA rules and be in good physical condition as reflected in a current physical. Tryouts occur each year in April. Please see our Tryout Information page for the most up-to-date information and requirements. A fall tryout and competition squad is possible.
The squad participates in many philanthropic and community activities during the season, which include: DuquesneFest, Dukes Caravan, Fall Open House, Spring Clean-Up, Best Buddies, Shining Stars special needs cheerleading program practice and performance in the Spread the Word to End the Word Event, and more. We are also planning to host an Alumni event this year and participate in the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Light the Night Walk.
A one-time fee will be collected at the beginning of the season to pay for camp and personal items (i.e. brief, bodysuit, etc.). All other items are purchased by the Athletic Department and include: Uniform, Travel Bag, Shoes, and Warm-up. Fundraising will be held during the season to assist with costs.
