• To successfully promote Duquesne University Athletics through the use, visibility and active engagement of our Mascot – The Duke.
• Create a lasting program that involves 2-3 enthusiastic and creative students who will serve as mascots throughout the school year.
The students selected to portray The Duke mascot will be expected to make a significant time commitment to the mascot program. The mascots are required to attend Duquesne athletic events/games and on-campus appearances when classes are in session (appearances will not be scheduled during class/testing times). The time commitment ranges from 5-15 hours per week depending on the time of year and number of appearance requests. The mascots are required to attend all home football games, home men’s basketball games, home women’s basketball games, and select Olympic sport home games. Mascots must be able to travel to tournament events with teams, specifically during the Atlantic 10 Tournament and March Madness.
Students who remain in good standing with the program will receive a stipend and select Athletics apparel each semester. The student selected to be the main Duquesne Duke will receive a $1500 scholarship for the year. The number two/or three Duquesne Duke will each receive a $250-500 scholarship for the year.
The Duke mascot will receive two complimentary tickets for each home football, men’s and women’s basketball game that they work.
Student performers have the option to condition in the training facility used by the student athletes during approved designated times.
Travel opportunities for the University and Athletic Department are available throughout the year with an emphasis on regular season and post-season tournaments (Atlantic 10 Tournament and March Madness).
